VALVES

Complete line of Industrial and Marine

Valves have many uses, including controlling water for irrigation, industrial uses for controlling processes, residential uses such as on/off and pressure control to dish and clothes washers and taps in the home. Even aerosol spray cans have a tiny valve built in.

A valve is a device or natural object that regulates, directs or controls the flow of a fluid (gases, liquids, fluidized solids, or slurries) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways. Valves are technically fittings, but are usually discussed as a separate category. In an open valve, fluid flows in a direction from higher pressure to lower pressure. The word is derived from the Latin valva, the moving part of a door, in turn from volvere, to turn, roll.

Gate Valve

Also known as a sluice valve, this is the valve that opens by lifting a barrier out of the path of the fluid. Gate valves require very little space along the pipe axis and hardly restrict the flow of fluid when the gate is fully opened. The gate faces can be parallel but are most commonly wedge-shaped.

Globe Valve

Different from a ball valve, this is a type of valve used for regulating flow in a pipeline, consisting of a movable plug or disc element and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body. It is used to control or stop the flow of liquid or gas through a pipe.

Check Valve

Also known as non-return valve, reflux valve, retention valve, foot valve, or one-way valve. This is a valve that normally allows fluid to flow through it in only one direction. Check valves are two-port valves, meaning they have two openings in the body, one for fluid to enter and the other for fluid to leave.

Butterfly Valve

A rotary valve in which a disk-shaped seating element is rotated 90° to open or close the flow passage. This type of valve can be used for throttling or regulating flow as well as in the full open and fully closed position. The pressure loss through a butterfly valve is small in comparison with the gate valve.

Alarm Check Valve

This type of valve is the core element in wet pipe fire sprinkler systems. It serves a dual purpose which prevents a reverse flow of water (non-return), also provides for the use of the water motor gong.

Foot Valve

A type of check valve that is typically installed at a pump or at the bottom of a pipeline. These special valves allow the pump to stay primed, letting liquid to flow in, but keeping it from flowing back out.

Ball Valve

A flow control device which uses a hollow, perforated and pivoting ball to control liquid flowing through it. It is open when the ball’s hole is in line with the flow inlet and closed when it is pivoted 90-degrees by the valve handle, blocking the flow.

Knife Valve

A component that utilizes a blade to cut through clogging of heavy liquids. Knife valves were originally designed for use in the pulp and paper industry.

Wye Strainer

Used for mechanically removing unwanted solids from liquid, gas, or steam lines by means of a perforated or wire mesh straining element. They are used in pipelines to protect pumps, meters, control valves, steam traps, regulators, and other process equipment.

Angle Valve

A manually operated valve with its outlet opening oriented at right angles to its inlet opening; used for regulating the flow of a fluid in a pipe. It is a valve for controlling the flow of a liquid or air.
